DEFLECTA CRETE SEALS five most often asked questions!

 

 

1.    HOW DOES IT WORK? 

The colloidal silicate gel forming solution penetrates the integrity of new and aged Portland cement concrete – delivering into the concrete a high quality antibacterial biocide.

A complex antifungal, anti mildew and antibacterial chemical formulation is distributed throughout the concrete internal pores of the hydrated base.

Bacterial Control:                 1.         Sanitized by germicidal biocides – kills bacteria

  Dual Control:                 2.         Free moisture within the concrete is transformed and locked up in a gel state – nutrients controlled,           preventing bacterial growth from starting

                                        

2.    WHY DOES IT WORK? 

When applied to new concrete, the solution (with anti germicidal biocide) combines free moisture, calcium and silicates within the hydrated base. The outcome is an interstitial gel filler that strengthens and densifies the concrete, with the benefit of internal concrete bacterial control. 

Concrete moisture now turned into a gel permanently stops any fluids, urine, body fluids, faeces, water, oils, acids and alkalines from entering the hydrated concrete base through any external surface. 

When applied to aged concrete, all of the above for new concrete applies, with the added benefit of purging residual internal waste and odours from the substrate and internally sanitizing it with the imbedded bacterial control. 

3.    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? 

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY FOR STAFF AND CUSTOMERS

Hydrostatic pressure is permanently stopped. This permits resilient backed carpets, vinyls, rubber, composite cork, solid timber, ceramics and stone to be installed without having the long term threat of (these) impervious surfaces from “blowing off the subfloor”.*

The integrity of concrete, when DEFLECTA STABILIZER is applied, is sanitized from within. 

How is this so? Bacteria and the like, require nutrients to survive. The solution permits light gasses such as oxygen to permeate through the concrete, but as there are no longer fluids in vapour or liquid state, bacteria, fungi or mildew cannot commence to grow internally in the concrete.

These complex benefits stops concrete off-gassing (which is a pre-curser for “sick building syndrome”) including Radon gas, developing wherever concrete surfaces (tilt walls and floors) are constructed.  

* It is essential that surface preparation complies with flooring installation instructions, and a full cover (100%) of adhesives is used.

 EXPECTED PRODUCT OUTCOMES 

When DEFLECTA STABILIZER solution touches the surface of concrete it quickly penetrates out of sight towards the bottom of the concrete, entering at the surface pores (top) of the concrete’s matrix, where within seconds of its arrival, it produces a vapour impermeable formation, which extends deeply within the concrete and is a resultant internal moisture membrane.

For fresh concrete pours, the product instantly transforms all free moisture within the concrete and ensures hydration is not impeded by moisture leaving the concrete. DEFLECTA STABILIZER’s induced formation can be observed as sustaining a high humidity environment within the concrete for more than long enough to entirely hydrate the available cements, and any pores holding moisture in the resultant mix.

The applied solution contains a catalytic ingredient which draws the induced reaction deeply into fresh concrete and its cement paste. The solution as it penetrates the concrete, provides mix water, utilised for the cement hydration process (to a degree, depending on cement composition), to increase its formation of fine void fillers, therefore strengthening its hydrates. Duration of the hydration period is both extended and maximised because the concretes hydration processes are accelerated.

Hydration time is achieved in a significantly shorter time period through production of additional calcium silicate hydrate (CSH). Hydration continues as long as a space (capillary porosity) for hydration product and moisture is available. An effective reduction of capillary voids is achieved by the gel forming solution entering the voids, resulting in the creation of an interstitial filler

Generally the more hydration (CSH) product, the stronger, harder, more durable, more impermeable concrete, will produce greater volumes of hydration product, reinforcing its (CSH) gel component by lowering its total percentage of capillary voids, through increased hydration production. Concrete is permanently integrally sealed to prevent water and other contaminants from entering or passing through its matrix, excepting for light atomic weight gases such as oxygen, allowing concrete to breathe as is necessary. The end result is more durable concrete that is impermeable, more freeze-thaw damage resistant, more dust resistant, more abrasion resistant, less likely to have detrimental internal chemical reactions, and easier to keep clean. As a bonus vapour gas such as radon gas is forced to seek other avenues of escape instead of passing through the concrete because our solution creates a sub-surface membrane blanket consisting of uniform-size microspores, which are impermeable to all but the lightest harmless gases.

Enviro Floors provides concrete sealing, hardening, densification, and waterproofing services.

Despite its durability, concrete is a porous material, which means it can absorb water, chlorides, stains, and other water or oil based materials that it comes in contact with. By treating the concrete with a sealer, you can inhibit the penetration of these intruders while allowing the surface to breathe, so moisture within the concrete doesn’t become trapped. Concrete is typically sealed with either a penetrating densifying sealer or a film forming sealer.

Penetrating water-based sodium silicate solutions harden and densify concrete by chemically reacting with the calcium salts present in concrete. It can be applied in one coat or multiple coats depending on the concrete porosity and can be used on either new or existing concrete floors. Sealers actually penetrate into the concrete surface to a depth of about 1 to 4 mil to increase water repellency and resist stains on absorbent concrete. They provide invisible protection without changing the surface appearance, and can increase the surface strength of your concrete floor.

Film forming solvent and water based acrylic sealers inhibit penetration of water and contaminants such as oil, grease, and stains by forming a barrier on the concrete surface. When used on newly placed concrete, sealers can help protect against spalling, dusting, efflorescence, freeze-thaw damage, and alkali degradation. Many also impart a gloss or sheen, so they often are used to enhance coloured, stamped, or exposed-aggregate concrete.

Concrete Cure & Seal is a unique one step cure and seal process that provides every beneficial function associated with curing concrete, plus much more. Concrete Cure & Seal solution out performs water curing in every aspect, i.e. durability, impermeability, strength, etc. As Concrete Cure & Seal solution touches the surface of concrete it quickly penetrates out of sight (except for any pigment, if applicable) to the bottom of the concrete's surface porosity to the top of the concrete's matrix where within seconds upon its arrival it forms a vapor permeable subsurface internal membrane. This instantly prevents moisture or water from leaving the fresh concrete. From that point on water can only escape from the concrete in fine vapor form. This aspect effectively works to sustain a long lasting high humidity environment inside the concrete to sufficiently hydrate the mix's available cement content. The length of time to accomplish this is dependent upon cement composition, fineness, and moisture proportions.

Even extremely low water/cement ratio mixes,requiring at least an 80% relative humidity environment to prevent self-desiccation, will benefit from the Concrete Cure & Seal created environment. Concrete Cure & Seal solution also contains ingredients capable capable of penetrating deeply into fresh concrete and it's cement paste component. These same ingredients provide to mix water utilized for the cement hydration process (to a degree, depending on cement composition) particle fineness and richness of mixture. Duration of the hydration period may be extended, but since concrete's hydration processes are accelerated through the use of Concrete Cure & Seal solution, hydration time is achieved in a significantly shorter time period through production of additional calcium silicate hydrate (CSH). Hydration continues as long as a space (capillary porosity) for hydration product and moisture is available. Generally the more hydration product (CSH) produced, the stronger, harder, more durable, more impermeable, etc., the concrete becomes. Concrete Cure & Seal solution provides concrete with a superior cure producing greater volumes of hydration product, reinforcing it's C-S-H gel component (the strength component of concrete) by lowering its total percentage of capillary voids through increased hydration product (CSH) production.

Concrete is permanently integrally sealed to prevent water and other contaminants from entering or passing through its matrix, except for light atomic weight gases such as oxygen, which allows concrete to breathe as is necessary.
