Introduction
To Seamless Floors
The use of coloured ‘chips’ or ‘flakes’ set in an epoxy resin are a common and
popular flooring system.
Often referred to as a seamless flooring, the chip may not actually be ‘vinyl’
but rather some
other sort of resin, plastic or latex. The best way to picture what it looks
like is to sprinkle paper
confetti on your floor. The tiny confetti are just like the paint chips.
Besides the colour(s) of the chips, the background colour under the chips, and
the density of their
distribution on your floor, there are still other options to decide and even
more than one method of
application.
The best application technique is to broadcast or sprinkle the chips onto a
clear epoxy or polyurethane
coating which has been applied over a solid coloured background or base coat.
After the clear coat has
hardened & another clear coat may be applied to ‘seal’the end result.
PROCEDURE
A typical application would be as follows:
Prepare the surface by removing all contamination such as grease, oils, loose
debris, etc.
Apply the coloured base coat and allow to dry. An epoxy base coat should be
allowed to cure according to the
product literature. Use a roller on the clear coat of choice and evenly sprinkle
the chips on the wet coating.
After the first clear coat with the chips has dried, it is time for an optional
protective clear top coat. Again the
options are epoxy or polyurethane. If using polyurethane, two top coats are
suggested because the polyurethane
dries much thinner. In the very top coat of clear polyurethane, very fine bead
can be added or mixed into the clear coat to provide a bit of texture for
anti-slip purposes.

Below Describes One Of Our
Coatings
100% Solids, unfilled cycloaliphatic amine cured
epoxy resin.
Description
Enviro Floors Clear Resin is formulated to provide
maximum chemical resistance in a clear epoxy system. The product has
minimal yellowing tendency and offers a high build coating in one
application. The product is solvent free, small quantities of xylene or
alcohol solvents may be added to aid application.
Major Applications
Enviro Floors Clear Resin is designed to be used
as a clear protective sealer for pigmented epoxy coatings. Use of Enviro
Floors Clear Resin improves the resistance of pigmented coatings to
staining by chemical agents. Enviro Floors Clear Resin Clear coatings
also exhibit a reduced tendency to water mark when applied in humid
conditions.
Chemical Properties
High build epoxy sealers have vastly superior
chemical resistance to conventional sealers comprised of mainly acrylic
resin compounds. Enviro Floors Clear Resin is resistant to spillage of
acids, alkalies, solvents and most cleaning agents.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces need to be dry prior to commencement.
Application of a clear sealer will accentuate any surface defects. All
holes and cracks should be filled. Floors to be coated should then be
surface ground to provide the desired appearance and remove any surface
imperfections. The ground surface needs then to be sealed with a first
coat of Enviro Floors Epoxy Glaze 2 and allowed to cure. After cure, any
remaining imperfections and protrusions are sanded or ground off.
Product Preparation
Resin and hardener need to be mixed prior to use.
It is most imortant to minimise air entrapment during mixing. Use a
mixing blade attached to a drill and stir slowly, keep blade under the
surface to prevent air being sucked in. When temperature is under 15
deg. the liquid components should be heated prior to mixing.
Application
Enviro Floors Clear Resin is applied by roller, at
100-125 microns per coat. Thicker coatings will tend to produce a
slightly milky effect. The addition of up to 10% epoxy solvent is
suggested when solvent presence is not an environmental hazard. Before
any further coating is applied all the solvent in such an application
needs to be allowed to evaporate.
Coverage
Enviro Floors Clear Resin is usually applied to
primed and cured epoxy coatings. Coverage is suggested at 8 - 12 sqm per
litre when solvent is added to produce a thin on skid finish. Thicker
coatings can be applied with no solvent added, a slightly milky finish
may be obtained where applied in excess of 500 microns.
Advantages
Enviro Floors Clear Resin Clear has superior non
yellowing properties compared to conventional epoxy sealers. It is
vastly superior to solvent based acrylic sealers with respect to stain
resistance and wear. Compared to polyurethane sealers there are no
solvent odours during application. Thicker coatings may be applied.
Packaging
Available as 9 litre and 27 litre kits. 15 litres
of resin are required to be used with 12 litres of hardener.
